The new buds are coming
It’s January twelfth
And the water in the bay is high
The blackbird has sung
But winter didn’t come
We can’t rely on the seasons anymore
We are winterless
Winterless
We wait with the weight of a vast hollow
Fearing what the next years will bring.
And no-one knows what to say
So we don’t say anything
Just carry on like everything is fine
Well I just decided to give myself time
Time for the grieving for all that we’re losing
These things we will never get back
Time for the joy that we’ll need to survive
That luckily comes with just being alive
Time to get out there and pay attention
To stay with and stand with the ones taking action
I’m going to fill this unimaginable absence
Where winter used to be with that
And there’s always going to be someone wrong on the internet
But I no longer have time for that
We are winterless
Winterless, winterless, winterless
For every ghastly prediction
And every unanswered question
From our terrified children
What do we do to protect them?
Now we are winterless
Winterless
We wait with the weight of a vast hollow
Fearing what the next years will bring
The new buds are coming
It’s January twelfth
And the water in the bay is high
The blackbird has sung
The blackbird is singing
The blackbird’s still singing today.
